If a certain page on an Internet site doesn't load for some reason or if a link is not working, the website visitor will see an error page with some generic message. The page will have nothing in common with the rest of the website, which may make the visitor leave your site. A possible solution in this case is a feature made available from some website hosting providers - the ability to set your own custom-made error pages which will have identical style and design as your Internet site and which can contain any text or images that you would like dependent upon the particular error. There are four popular errors that could occur and they involve these so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your world-wide web browser sends a bad request to the server and it can't be processed; 401, in case you are supposed to log in to see some webpage, but you have not done so yet; 403, if you do not have a permission to see a certain page; and 404, in case a link which you have clicked leads to a file which doesn't exist. In any of these scenarios, site visitors shall be able to see your customized content rather than a generic error page.
Custom Error Pages in Cloud Hosting
You will be able to set up custom made error pages for each of your Internet sites easily when you use any of our Linux cloud plans. This could be done using the Hosted Domains part of the Hepsia CP, provided with all accounts and when you go there, you can set your personalized pages independently for any domain or subdomain. You have to upload the files to your account beforehand and enter the links to them through the process. This feature can be de-activated anytime and the options you will be able to pick from are a conventional page from our system or a default Apache web server page. Custom made error pages could be set with an .htaccess file too. The file should be put in the domain or subdomain folder and it must incorporate some system code and links to the pages. If you aren't tech-savvy, you may copy the entire content necessary for the file from our Help section.
Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers
All of the semi-dedicated plans which we provide support personalized error pages and it will not take more than a few mouse clicks in your Hepsia web hosting Control Panel to use this functionality. The option is available in the Hosted Domains section of your CP where you will have to input the links to the custom-made files via simple drop-down menus and an intuitive interface. Of course, you must upload them in your account before that. In case you don't want to use this function at some point, you can easily disable it just as quickly and select an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be displayed when your visitors encounter an error. If you prefer, you could also use an .htaccess file to permit the personalized error pages. The file needs to include a specific line of code as well as a link for each error type and you may discover an example of the whole content for all four error types in our Help section.
